A short and easy comparison between three Education systems

This is a useful scheme made by students in the second class.

THE ITALIAN SCHOOL

THE BRITISH SCHOOL

THE AMERICAN SCHOOL

Children go to school at the age of 6.

If parents want, they go at the age of 5.

Children go to school at the age of 5

Children go to school at the age of 5

Students can leave the school at the age of 16.

Students can leave the school at the age of 16.

Students can leave the school at the age of 16 (at the age of 18 in some States)

In Italy there isn’t the so-called National Curriculum

Students have exams related to the subjects they study at school, which are connected to the topics listed in the so-called National Curriculum. If lots of students in a school fail this exam, it may close.

In the U.S.A there isn’t the so-called National Curriculum.

After the middle school there are different types of secondary schools like for example  licei and vocational schools.

Schools may be state or private.

After primary school there are two types of secondary school-comprehensive schools and grammar schools.

Most of the students attend comprehensive schools.

They start at the age of 11.

After the middle school, students can’t choose different  types of school because there is only one, the high school.

In Italy there isn’t the GCSES exam

At the age of 16, students must take  an exam, called GCSE, on  9 subjects. The graduation of this exam is made from letters and the letter A is the highest level.

In the U.S.A there isn’t the GCSE exam.

In Italy at the age of 16, students are still attending  high school.

At the age of 16 students can choose to study for the A-levels. They usually choose  four subjects for this exam and the study time is about two years.

In the U.S.A at the age of 16 students  are still attending high school.

There is the so-called “seminario”, that is a type of school where students study to become a priest

There are faith schools, which are  schools where subjects are connected with the religion, promoted by the school

There are lots of Christian schools in the USA

There isn’t the so- called college but the University.

Students can choose to go to a college when they are 16 years to study for the A levels, or they continue to study the A levels in the same secondary school, they’ve finished to attend.

The sixth form represents the final two years of secondary education, which are necessary to go to university

There are colleges and universities in the United States.

A two-year college offers an associate's degree, as well as certificates. A four-year college or university offers a bachelor's degree. Programs that offer these degrees are called "undergraduate" schools.

Attending a  University in Italy is  very difficult, above all the medicine university. Students must do many exams as many are the subjects they have to study. Another thing is that  the highest grade  is 30 in every exam and 110 in the final exam.

Students who study at university have only a main subject to study. The first year is called fresher and at the end there is an exam

There are the undergraduates studies, which they divide in Freshman Year, Sophomore Year, Junior Year and Senior Year.

There are private schools

There are private schools and state schools

Private schools are called PUBLIC or INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS aren’t free

There are private schools and state school
