Phrasal verbs with get

This morning students in the third class studied phrasal verbs with get.

Students were divided in groups of two or three.Two or three students got a sheet of paper with two or three  phrasal verbs and they had to search for the other two or three students having the definition of those verbs into Italian.

Then in groups of four they had to complete an exercise choosing the correct preposition to complete each phrasal verb.

Technological  developement has made all of us dependant because we can’t live without our computers or without our telephones  anymore.  

Many people,  especially children and the young, agree with technology because they think that it’s essential in daily life. They  think: ‘’What would we do without technology?’’, ‘’How would we talk to people living away from us?’’ or ‘’How would we do the homework, take photos, make videos or send messages?’’. That’s right.

Lots of people live far away from their family or from their friends and  technology can reduce distance. Furthermore, technology  gives us the possibility of shopping online or of getting to  know new people from all over  the world. It’s very useful.  

However,  some people don’t agree with technology because they think: ‘’Humans have lived for centuries without technology, so it is not essential’’. According to them, technology has destroyed lots of values. All the people are totally addicted to technology, especially children that spend all their time on their telephones and not playing in the streets like it happened years ago. Furthermore, technology has taken the place of  books and no one knows the beauty of writing letters anymore.                                                

 Nowadays technology is essential like oxygen.

Advantages and disadvantages

Nowadays, technology has become the main topic of our lives, especially for teenagers just like me. It has completely taken control of our lives.

In my opinion, I believe in technology. I think that, without some technological innovations, life would be really hard; in addition, we must consider the fact that progress is part of the human kind. Anyway, I also believe that some inventions could be used in a bad way and they could even become oppressive of individual liberties.

The revolution of Technology has almost affected every part of daily life. For example, the world of music has been completely changed: records have been forgotten and replaced by CDs, MP3, IPod and Mobile Phones. You can download movies and music from the internet, even from illegal sites. You can listen to music and watch movies, videos, etc.. Everywhere. It's very easy to carry an mp3 or an IPod because they're really small.

Before technology, it was possibile to communicate just with letters, and they needed days to arrive at destination. Now, there are e-mails, text messages, or simply a call, they all need few seconds. Children used to play with dolls, read books, or they used to go playing outside with their friends, but now they play videogames or simply surf the net. Thanks to technology, we can connect with the world just with a click, and before it wasn't possible.

Unfortunately, technology has also a lot of disadvantages and dangers. It can create an addiction; Internet addicts can't even keep their eyes off the monitor, they lose touch with reality and become more and more isolated. In order to avoid this addiction it is important to remember some thing. An e-mail or a text will never replace the feeling to talk to people face to face. Doing sport or going out with friends isn't the same thing of spending all day long playing videogames. There are a lot of problems on the Net, like cyberbullying, the publication of indecent materials and web-sites that can influence your mind.

To sum up, sometimes I think about going back to the origins, when people didn't need a television or a mobile phone to feel "powerful", because maybe in this way we'll find the values we have lost with the improvement of technology.. But I also think that technology is necessary if we want to create a new world.

The importance of technology

Technology refers to the collection of tools that make it easier to use, create and exchange information.

Nowadays, its importance is undeniable.

Most teenagers couldn’t even imagine their lives without technology, it would be meaningless.

On the one hand technology makes our lives easier, on the other hand it is a really dangerous means in the hands of human beings.

First of all, it helps everybody working and searching for information.

Teenagers have never lived without technology and don’t often think about how life was in the 1950s, for example.

Getting information was much more difficult, they had to go to a library and consult many books, while today it is necessary to have an Internet connection to get informed about eveything.

Secondly, it has shortened distances.

Planes allow us to move from a continent to another easily and quickly.

Moreover, getting in touch with people who live far from us is easier due to all the social networks that have been created in recent years.

But surely, technology does not consist only in computers, Internet, social networks and apps, but also in things that are essential for human beings’ lives, and so for our health.

Technology has helped scientists make discoveries which were unimaginable in the previous centuries.

Plenty of means that have permitted medicine to enhance have been invented.

Researchers have discovered how to cure some terminal illnesses and they are still developing cures for Cancer, SLA ecc..

Unfortunately, beyond all these benefits, there are drawbacks, too.

In the first place, the abundance of technology in daily life can often lead to the lack of social life.

More and more people prefer sending messages than talking, and social relations are gradually being substituted by Whatsapp messages and likes on Instagram.

In the second place, a really serious phenomenon is cyberbulling.

Sometimes, Internet is an unsafe means because teenagers use it to insult and mock classmates and often publish photos to humiliate them.

Last but not least, the problem of hackers.

Nowadays, it’s not difficult at all for hackers to change passwords and have access to private accounts, or even worse, to checking accounts.

To sum up, althought technology has produced many improvements, you need to be careful and use it responsibly.

Personally, I think that technology is a good discovery unless people use it eccessively, making human clones, stopping having a social life, using it to spread private information, but ONLY to get their lives better!
